What made you attend a BWOW ride? Fitness, fun and meeting new people from similar background.
How did you hear about BWOW? Through my daughter.
How did you begin cycling? Over 10 years. I had bought a bike lying unused because my teenage children were too embarrassed to teach me. The push to learn through alternative means was when my then employer started charging for parking and I was unwilling to pay when using my car for the job.
What was your first ride? November 2022 but April 2023 with BWOW.
What did you think of it? Group rides was amazing. The sisters were accommodating and encouraging.
Why do you enjoy BWOW? The laughs, sharing ideas and knowledge, empowerment and unity amongst black sisters.
What can Black women who attend a BWOW ride expect? Understanding, empathy, support and great fun.
What keeps you coming back? How accommodating and encouraging they are despite not being a proficient cyclist,
How has cycling changed your life? As a 60 year old whose children have flown the nest, the group cycling has given me something to focus on and look forward to. It has allowed me to maintain a level of fitness especially at the age when ‘everything starts getting painful and creaking’. It has given me a continued sense of independence and a challenge.
